If you already have an Xtream Codes account and use it on your phone or Smart TV, you'll naturally want it on your car screen too. The problem: when you plug in your phone, your usual player doesn't appear in Android Auto. This guide explains why, and how to use an Xtream player for Android Auto that actually works on the dashboard.
What is an “Xtream player”?
It's any IPTV player that lets you log in with the Xtream Codes API: instead of a single M3U link, it asks for three fields (server, username and password) and downloads channels already sorted into categories, with the program guide (EPG) and on-demand content if your provider includes it. If you're not sure what those three fields are, use our Xtream Codes account extractor.
Why your Xtream player doesn't show up in the car
Android Auto only displays apps from categories approved by Google (navigation, messaging, audio…). Video apps published on Google Play can't render on the car screen. That's why popular phone and TV players such as XCIPTV, IPTV Smarters or TiviMate work fine on your phone but have no Android Auto interface.
The usual workarounds have drawbacks:
- Screen mirroring: audio delay, battery drain and the phone screen always on. See screen mirroring vs native app.
- Fermata Auto and similar: generic browsers/players; Xtream accounts usually have to be converted to M3U and you lose categories. See Fermata Auto alternatives.
The fix: a native Xtream player for Android Auto
AutoIPTV is a player built to render directly on the Android Auto screen, with native Xtream Codes API and M3U support:
| You need | How AutoIPTV handles it |
|---|---|
| Xtream login | Server, username and password fields on your phone. |
| Browse by category | Channels arrive grouped just like your provider's. |
| Use it on the car screen | Native interface, touch or rotary knob, no mirroring. |
| Listen while navigating | Background audio alongside Google Maps or Waze. |
| Cost | Free, no subscription. The playlist comes from your provider. |
How to set up your Xtream account on Android Auto
- Download and install the APK from the download section.
- Enable Android Auto developer mode and the Unknown sources option. Step by step in how to enable developer mode.
- Open AutoIPTV on your phone and choose “Add Xtream Codes account”.
- Enter server, username and password. Check the account is active first with the Xtream checker.
- Connect your phone to the car (wired or wireless) and open AutoIPTV from the Android Auto launcher.
Common Xtream connection errors
- “Invalid username or password”: it's case-sensitive; copy the fields with the extractor instead of typing them.
- “Can't reach server”: the port (
:8080,:80…) or thehttp://protocol is missing. - Loads but won't play: your account may allow only 1 connection and it's in use on another device.
- Drops on the highway: that's mobile coverage. More tips in playlist loading errors.
