How to update Android Auto to the latest available version

March 15, 2026 2 min read

Does your car suddenly not recognize your phone when you connect it? Is the screen black, Google Maps stuttering, or do you have a terrible delay in the audio? Before you go crazy changing cables or restarting the radio, you should know that 90% of these failures are solved simply by keeping the Android Auto application updated on your mobile.

The problem of progressive updates

Unlike other apps, Google does not release Android Auto updates for everyone at once. They do it in a "staggered" way by country and phone model. This means that there may be a new version that fixes your problems, but the Google Play store may not let you download it yet.

Method 1: Official Update (Recommended)

The first step is always to try using the official route:

  1. Open the Google Play Store app on your Android phone.
  2. Tap your profile picture in the top right corner.
  3. Select "Manage apps and device".
  4. Tap on "Updates available". If you see Android Auto in the list, tap "Update".

Method 2: Force update via APK (For advanced users)

If you are suffering from a critical error (such as the system not starting) and you know that Google has already released a patch, but it does not appear in the Play Store, you can force the installation by manually installing the "APK" file (just as you install our AutoIPTV player).

  • From your mobile browser, go to a safe app repository page, such as APKMirror.
  • Use their search bar to find "Android Auto".
  • You will see a list with the most recent versions. Look for the ones that don't say "Beta" (to avoid problems) and download the file to your phone.
  • Open the downloaded file. Your phone will ask if you want to "Update the existing application". Tap Accept.

Keep your entire ecosystem up to date

Having the latest version of the car's operating system guarantees maximum compatibility with third-party applications and modern players.
